About the Project
Partnership for the Future
The Northern Virginia Science Center is being developed through a public private partnership including the Children’s Science Center, a Northern Virginia based non-profit, the Science Museum of Virginia an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Loudoun County. With substantial public and private support from partners across the region, this project fulfills the long-held vision for a world-class, interactive science center in our region. The Science Center is expected to serve over 300,000 curious minds of all ages each year.
Project Milestones
2018: Science Center included in Governor's budget.
2019: Public-private partnership & lead gift confirmed.
2020: Exhibit and architectural design began.
2022: Building and exhibit design completed.
2024: Projected groundbreaking.
Project Financials
The Science Center project benefits from public and private support enabling the construction of a new building, fabrication of world-class exhibits, and delivering technology enabled program spaces. Project financials also include funds for long-term operational sustainability including a starter endowment and operating reserves.
