Roberts Family Element Partnership

event

September 10, 2024

Bruce Roberts had been hearing about the Science Center for years, but it was at an event where community members shared their own stories that the lightbulb went off: “I heard from the students themselves what a difference it made, being exposed to science, becoming passionate about it, going to college for it. It touched my heart and reminded me of my own story. I’ve been involved ever since.”

Love for STEM has been a constant for Bruce, from early days playing with chemistry sets through his career as a pharmacist and businessman. Today he continues to pay it forward as a leader on the Science Center board and Launch the Future campaign committee, working to ensure that every child has the tools and knowledge to chart their own futures. Bruce and his family have chosen to expand their commitment as Element Partners of the Northern Virginia Science Center.

“What the Science Center does for student outreach and STEM education is just terrific, and the new museum will let us take it to the next level,” shares Bruce. “It’s an extraordinary opportunity for our community. And with 15 grandkids, 13 in Leesburg, we’ve somewhat of a vested interest!”

Bruce and Rachel Roberts and their family will be honored with the element Rubidium on the periodic table display in the new Science Center. The Roberts’ grandkids loved the connection between Rubidium’s symbol, Rb, and their family name. At this Science Center, Rb stands for Roberts too!

Thanks to the Roberts family and supporters like them, even more students, teachers, families, and learners of all ages will be sharing stories in the years to come about how the Northern Virginia Science Center impacted their lives.
